Oldham Council and Oldham Community Leisure invested 15 million pounds to create the fantastic facilities at the new Oldham Leisure Centre. Willmott Dixon completed the build which includes a 25 metre 8 lane swimming pool, state of the art gym, sports hall and ample car park in November 2015. Willmott Dixon selected security experts Security Solutions to design and install an automatic parking management system.
Situated in Oldham’s busy town centre the new leisure centre boasts an impressive 119 car parking spaces. Following OCL’s specification a parking management system was designed which would see the leisure centre’s patrons benefit from the free 3 hour parking on offer to members and visitors but deter unauthorised parking by others.
Security Solutions installed two automatic rising arm barriers which includes a ticket dispenser and intercom on entry and a ticket receiver and intercom on exit. Users can validate tickets and pay for additional parking at the automatic pay station located inside the centre, a further manned pay station was also installed at the reception.
Brian Wilkinson, Senior Operations Manager, who managed the project, explains:
“We presented Willmott Dixon and the client with a new state of the art ticketing system using barcode technology together with our reliable and secure automatic traffic barriers this was the perfect solution to their specification.”
“The client wanted to protect the car parking spaces on offer to members and visitors but did not want to charge them to use the car park. The 2D printed barcode tickets are durable and reliable with even the most worn tickets accepted by the readers, a self validation point allows easy and effective use with little disruption to valuable gym time.”
