Bury College Turnstile Installation

In September 2015 work was completed on Bury College’s 48 million pound campus redevelopment. The requirement for a turnstile system to direct and guide the 15,000 students and 600 staff was appointed to turnstile specialist Security Solutions (Northern) Ltd. The Bolton based company installed the high tech entrance control Fastlane Turnstile Systems at three locations on campus.

The centre is used to deliver higher level study programmes for undergraduates, advanced level apprentices and courses that aim to up-skill the workforce to meet the needs of businesses.

To define the public zones from the restricted areas Security Solutions installed three Glasswing lanes and one DDA lane making the brand new library, learning resource centre and art studios accessible by students and staff only.

Keith Platts, Executive Director of Bury College, said:  “Our work with Brian Wilkinson, Luke Sanders and the Security Solutions team aimed to implement an aesthetically pleasing physical security system at the College to integrate with our existing access control system and to manage unauthorised access to the College.”

“With 15,000 students on site, fast efficient throughput, particularly during peak times, was essential when choosing a suitable solution. Security Solutions, having had previous knowledge and experience of similar projects, used their expertise and took into consideration all the College’s concerns to provide an ideal solution. The glass wing turnstiles not only provided us with a complete secure, user-friendly system, but also improved the College’s welcoming reception areas around the campus.”

He added; “What we appreciated most about working with Security Solutions as a company was their ability to quickly understand the needs of the College and work with all interested parties to deliver the expected results on time and within budget.”
